Vessel Motions
Computation of vessel motions is undertaken to establish acceleration loads for any chosen point on the deck thereby establishing extreme loads and fatigue loads for structural design purposes.

Vessel Motions for Barge shaped ships in extreme seas are calculated using DNV, 'Classification of Ships', Part 3, Chapter 1, Section 4 design loads.

Vessel Motions for Barge shaped ships in non extreme sea states are calculated using a spreadsheet derived from, 'Fast Evaluation of Ship Responses in Waves', by Jorgen Juncher Jensen, Department of Mechanical Engineering Technical University of Denmark, published in Hydrodynamics VI Theory and Applications - Cheng and Yeow (eds) 2005, Taylor and Francis Group, London, ISBN 04 1536 304 7.

The extract below compares results using this methodology with those found using more rigerous analytical techniques.
