Structural timber design calculations are carried out in accordance with British Standard BS 5268.

Structural steel work design calculations are carried out in accordance with British Standard BS5950.

Lupus Engineering Services Ltd is not a Certifier of Design as described in the Building (Scotland) Act 2003. This means that we cannot issue certificates. We are however, as Chartered Engineers, able to undertake engineering calculations which can be submitted to local authorities, in the form of an engineers report, for certification and approval. The advantage for the home owner is that the cost of the 'upfront' engineering is cheaper as there are no overheads in relation to running a certification scheme. The disadvantage is that local authority approval takes a bit longer to get.
